According to the British Telegraph, writing the old-fashioned love letters have declined. A survey by Bradford & Bingley found less than one in five received a love letter from an admirer. Only 28% have received a letter from a lover in the past five years. One third (33%) of the youths have never written a letter to their sweetheart, compared to just 14% for the over-55s, from another survey conducted by GfK NOP.

Editor of exquisite engagement rings.com shares below a letter written in the mid 1940's. It is hoped that by sharing this letter and having the contest our youths will develop the love for writing and expressing their love to their sweet hearts.

In the Garden of love

Where roses are grown

Ever dated

My dear sunshine Rosamond,

Having caught sight of your magnificent beauty, your rosy cheeks, your eyes like twinkling stars, your lips like the softest velvet I have ever seen, your breast like rose apples and above all your stature like the most beautiful tree in the world graceful and stately it behooves me to ask you to be my lover.

Rosamond, the love I have for you is like this;

L    Look- I have looked all through the universe I have never seen any beautiful woman as you.

O    Observe-For a long time I have been observing your personality, your conversation, your movement etc. and I find no fault in you.

V     Venture-I now venture to write you this letter asking you to be my lover.

E     Embrace-And now I want to embrace you all by myself till death do us part.

Please Rosamond, do not turn me down. I love you with all my heart awaiting a speedy reply.

Anxiously waiting,

Philip
